The Importance of Setting Goals

Statistics show that people who have goals and who write them down have over 80% higher success rate of achieving their goals than those who don’t. Most of us (apparently 67%) have a general idea of what we want but have no idea how to get it. Only 10% have a plan but only half of this group actually succeeds. The rest? They’re just floating around.

So which group do you want to belong to?

A found this quote from Earl Nightingale: “People with goals succeed because they know where they are going. It’s as simple as that.” I actually think it’s a little more complicated than that, yet the solutions are part of being disciplined enough and believing that you deserve the achievement enough to attain it.

  • You have to set goals that are precise and realistic. Focus on fewer goals at a time to not get overwhelmed.
  • You have to keep a journal explaining why that goal is important to you and how attaining it is such a positive element for your life and maybe those around you. The daily journal posts will also keep you on track and help you along the way.
  • You have to slice your goals down to bite size, to monthly and weekly objectives and daily tasks that are more feasible, easier to tackle.
  • You have to review your goals, objectives and tasks every single day to make sure you accomplish each task before trying to move forward and in order to modify them if required.  This should be part of a new daily routine, every morning or every night for the next day.
  • Celebrate your accomplishments each step of the way. This is a great motivator for you to continue.

These are the principles to remember when you want to change your life around using goals. You have to really work diligently to make sure you stay on track. Remember, your New Happy You depends on this!
