I have 2 kids, 3 dogs and a rat. CHAOS is my middle name!
Do you seriously think I can have anyone over??
In our home, the 3 humans are the culprits! I think I haven’t set such a great example for my kids either. We put ”stuff” away just in case they are needed in the future. We keep them in a safe/good place, then a month later, we have no clue where we put them!! We keep boxes and boxes of things we have long forgotten… We feel bad to throw things out. Result: Clutter.
Clutter, as an Energy Drainer, will deplete you of the resources you need to get organized. It truly becomes a vicious cycle. It takes the decision and the will to tackle one part of the clear out at a time. Through Baby Steps, you start seeing floorspace, countertops, table tops and desktops. It feels good to get rid of clutter. It is renergizing.
The second part of the solution is keeping clutter out. Probably the best way to handle this is to say “Do I really need this?” each time you are faced with buying or taking an item. If you don’t need, don’t take it home. Makes sense, right?
I know it takes practice. I’m still working on this. Although I am capable of tackling clutter a few times a year, I have trouble keeping it out, so the work needs to be repeated on a regular basis. I will have to make it habit to refuse anything that is not needed for me, for my family or for the household.
