Energy Drainer – Another type of clutter… the one in your head.

I got a few comments about Clutter following yesterday’s article. I guess I am not the only one with the Clutter problem!! LOL

Things happen in a funny way sometimes too. I had a coaching call today and through the conversations we had in our little group of 4, I got thinking about another type of clutter…

Clutter doesn’t only affect your environment. It can happen in the mind too. It is just as much an Energy Drainer. It is well worth the time and effort to organize our head space as it is to organize our physical space.

With a cluttered mind, I get overwhelmed, I see different elements of a project without seeing the required sequence of steps to take, I see many ideas that fuzz my vision of the desired outcome, I hear judgment from the outside and let it take over my thoughts… What should I keep in there, what should I throw out? How should I compartmentalize it all to make it make sense?

First thing’s first: BREATHE. That’s what I learned today. Taking a deep breath to be fully aware of myself makes a world of difference. It brings oxygen to my brain and clarity to my mind. (The alternative has been speed-talking, shallow breathing and feeling a sense of urgency in everything that needs to be done!)

Then I like to take out my Journal and write. What is my desired outcome, my goal? What does it look like? What are the elements that, combined, make the outcome what it is? How can I take each of these elements and make smaller goals to reach one at a time?

As for judgment from the outside… Have I thought this through well? How confident am I that I will make this work and that this is the right thing for me to do? What support do I have to move forward with this? Knowing that I have a plan now, do I feel more confident that I will be able to tackle all the challenges ahead? Do I feel the passion to make this dream come true to such a degree that nothing will stop me? The answers to these questions will keep out all the negative thoughts that could otherwise clutter your mind!

So what does it look like in your head? Is it time to take out your Journal yet??
